wishist wednesday

i've mentioned this before; i really need something, ANYTHING, from the o.p.i pirates of the caribbean collection. howeverrr, i've vowed not to buy a full sized polish from o.p.i again without trying out a mini version first, so i want this..

image from amazon

i'm going to see the film on friday, so excited! johnny depp has to be the best thing about the films though, such an amazing actor. there's nothing else i want this week, other than to look like jennifer lopez..

i took the picture from this month's instyle

seriously, how beautiful is she?!

i love my twirly skirt

i wore this to visit my nan in her nursing home, despite the fact it was raining, because she likes it when girls wear skirts. bless her.

skirt, shirt & necklace - h&m
ring - wallis
t-shirt - f&f at tesco
sheer tights - i'm not sure

i should probably try doing an outfit post without wearing something from h&m once, i just can't help myself! it really is the only shop that i always find something worth buying, and it's so reasonably priced that it'd be rude not to...

i love magazine freebies

this month, instyle and nails inc teamed up, giving away one of three shades with each magazine. unfortunately for me, i could only get my hands on the brown one of the bunch - fashion fawn.

similar to barry m mushroom, yes? i did a comparison and barry m is a tad darker, but you'd be forgiven for mistaking them. it applies well, it dried surprisingly quickly and didn't need a top coat. alas, it chipped overnight. boo.

ootd - i really need to learn how to pose

this was actually yesterday's outfit but i didn't get around to posting about it. i wore this over my boyfriend's house & i tend to think more carefully about what i wear in case his mother judges me based on my appearance haha.

tights, belt & skirt: all h&m

what do you think?

wishlist wednesday

oh internet, why are you home to so many websites when i have no money to spend on them? today i've been browsing urban outfitters and mac; so many things, so little money.

urban outfitters:
£35 here

£32 here
£48 here

from mac, i'd like the prep and prime highlighter. it seems pointless to post a picture but here's the link.

also, i'm running out of paco rabanne lady million, so i'd like more of that. and i want to try out some chloe perfume, has anyone tried this?

green(ish) with envy

green with envy is another of rimmel's 60 second nail varnishes, though i don't think it's particularly green. it looks slightly bluer in real life than it does in my photos; it's one of those colours that someone will say "oh that's blue, that's definitely blue" whilst another person would be convinced it's green.

application was alright, not perfect but there wasn't too much to complain about. it didn't rub off on things i touched as rapid ruby did, but it did chip quite easily. not a bad nail varnish, but not too good either. nice colour though :).

sporadic summary

1. dog walking is brilliant. seriously, i'd be so fit if i had my own dog! for now i'll settle for walking my bampy's dog, but walking a dog really is perfect exercise. though you get some strange looks if, like me, you talk to your dog as if you expect an answer.

2. i love random little things that make you smile. like this little bit of graffiti, it's spray painted on this cute little bridge in this really picturesque place and every time i see it it makes me smile. this is the bridge (excuse the dog showing you her bum hah)..

3. WHERE IS MY DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES BOXSET. i ordered it over a week ago and it still hasn't turned up, despite apparently being dispatched one day last week; boo.

4. azerbaijan shouldn't have won eurovision. neither should the UK though. i was rooting for moldova, nothing else was quite cheesy enough for eurovision! though i really liked denmark's entry too. here's the link. is it sad that i'm watching it and enjoying it as much as the first time?

notd :)

when i bought rimmel 'rapid ruby', i was expecting a lovely red wine-esque colour with perfect application. whilst the colour was nice, the application didn't live up to my previous experiences with the brand. it stained my nails, and it's one of those nail varnishes that rubs off on stuff it touches so i think it'd require a base & top coat..too much effort!

it's really unforgiving; it made my nails look so wide and in such poor condition! i wouldn't recommend this nail varnish unless you have lovely thin nails in perfect condition.

3 for 2 on rimmel!

i really shouldn't be allowed to pick my prescription up since i always spend way too much in the chemist. this time, there was three for two on all things rimmel. i went for two of the 60 seconds polishes (reviews soon) and a lasting finish lipstick.

the shade i picked up is "indulgence", which seems to suit the shade really well. it smells really familiar but i can't put my finger on what it reminds me of..maybe sweets of some kind? who knows! the packaging is quite simple and sleek, i wouldn't be ashamed to be caught with it in public.
no flash

with flash

i'd just like to clarify that the shininess in the second picture is because of a combination of flash and moisturiser, not some icky sweat or something haha.

application isn't bad, i wouldn't advise applying it without looking in the mirror though. it takes a couple of coats to get an all round even coverage and it's long lasting. to test it out yesterday, i put it on, spent half hour cooking (pasta with sausage sauce..yum), ate my food, then checked it and it was still going strong! obviously it wasn't perfect, but i think it held up pretty well.

all in all, i think i'd give it 4 out of 5. the only reason it wasn't a full 5 is because you have to look in a mirror to apply it. this is one of those lipsticks that makes you smile to yourself when you catch a glimpse of your lips :)

wishlist wednesday

did you buy this month's elle? it came with a little booklet about the debenhams beauty club awards 2011. on the back of this little booklet, there's an image of kate moss wearing dior addict lipstick. i thinkkkk this is the right one..

as gorgeous as she is, i never normally really buy into anything kate moss does because it annoys me how she portrays smoking as cool, but when i saw this..wow. i really want this lipstick! i've looked on boots and it's £22 and comes in a huge shade range: 44 colours! i'm not going to get it online though, when i'm spending £22 on a lipstick i want to see the thing in real life first.

i usually tend to avoid topshop, not because i don't like it, but because i spend farrrr too much every time i go in there or even open the website :(. i couldn't resist this week though, so now i want..
top - £18, bag - £32

the bag also comes in a pink pattern, instead of blue :). i'd also like my h&m order to turn up, as well as my amazon order! in dire need of a shopping fix..

ootd

top, skirt & tights - all h&m

ring (used to be a flower but it broke so i pretend it's a butterfly now) - next
top bracelet - from a selection of other bracelets, from wallis
bottom bracelet - was my nan's, then my mam's, now mine
the white t-shirt underneath is just a plain one from tesco

today has been so eventful! it started off as "one of those days"; it was really windy and then it started pouring down with rain & silly me didn't bring an umbrella or coat :( i was all set for coming home in lunch time, then thunder and lightning started when we were in lesson, then the weather made a huge part of the school roof fall onto the headteacher's car, thennn when we were in the common room we were told we had to go home because there was a suspected gas leak! drama drama. i'm considering not going in to school tomorrow & saying i just assumed we wouldn't have school..

my first attempt at baking..

i reaaally wanted to cook something yesterday, so i got a cookbook and pounced on the only thing i had all the ingredients for..crispy treacle squares.

75g sugar
75g butter
75g black treacle
75g golden syrup
175g rolled oats (basically just porridge oats)

  • put the sugar, butter, black treacle and goldensyrup into a saucepan.
  • heat it all on a low heat on the hob until the butter is melted and the sugar has dissolved
  • take it away from the heat and blend in the oats.
  • put the mixture in a baking tray and put the tray into a pre-heated oven (170 degrees C for normal ovens, i turned mine down to 150 because it's a fan assisted oven).
  • leave in there for 30 minutes, or until it's crispy.
result..

it was really easy and didn't taste too bad either haha. if i made it again, i'd swap the black treacle for normal treacle, or maybe melted chocolate. the black treacle just dominated the taste too much for me. apparently the recipe is supposed to make 24 squares, but you'd have some really tiny squares if you tried making 24 of them!

on another note: i'm really nervous for university atm. my mother bought loads for me yesterday, including a cookbook aimed directly at students..actually a really good idea. there's symbols by the recipes to tell you if they're vegan, vegetarian, take less than 20 minutes to cook, or are a good hangover cure haha. she's also bought me loads of kitchen stuff, i know she means well but it's making me super nervous :(

style crush

when i watch gossip girl, i usually prefer serena's style to blair's. off screen though, leighton meester always has such amazing clothes. plus she's so gorgeous, i have such a girl crush :).

sorry about the collage; it looked better when i was making it and it also looked bigger, but it seems to have shrunk a bit on here *sad face*. i think i may be in love with the shoes leighton's wearing in the bottom right hand photo, so pretty!

long time no blog!

no wishlist wednesday today; there just isn't all that much i actually want! instead, i thought i'd attempt an OOTD post. now, bear with me with ootd posting. i don't get along with my face at the moment, so that will be chopped out of pictures.

i'm fully aware this isn't the most imaginative of outfits, but it's my go-to casual outfit. the top is from dorothy perkins; with this kind of top i tend to buy one or two sizes bigger than i actually am as they just don't suit me otherwise. the jeans are asos's own jeans, and i actually got them for £15 on sale! i'm not really big on jeans but i like this sort of style, and i couldn't really turn them down for £15 :) if i leave the house with this outfit on, i usually wear brogues or just plain flats with an across-the-body bag :)

p.s. if you can see my nail varnish, it's barry m's yellow nail varnish. biggest disappointment ever :( i think barry m may have changed the formula a bit 'cause everything i've bought recently isn't living up to my old stash.

p.p.s the only thing on my wishlist is a winning lottery ticket, please and thanks..
